Job Description
The Section Engineering Manager will be responsible for fostering a high-performance culture and leading the Plant Engineering & Maintenance team to achieve production and business continuity targets through an integrated value chain. This role holds legal accountability under a 2.13.3.1 appointment in terms of the MHSA and oversees the safe operation and maintenance of equipment and structures, ensuring the availability and reliability of the fixed plant at Venetia Mine.
Key Performance Areas:
- Ensure compliance with legal, safety, environmental, and hygiene standards.
- Develop and manage a risk log aligned with short-, medium-, and long-term strategic objectives.
- Implement policies and develop procedures to maintain adherence to SHE, Engineering, and Operational standards.
- Optimize engineering availability and lifecycle management of equipment through financial resource allocation.
- Manage and coordinate team and resources to execute maintenance and operational plans.
- Liaise with maintenance, operational, and support function personnel for engineering solutions.
- Direct the development and utilization of human resources to ensure competency within the area of responsibility.
- Enhance maintenance strategies and plans for optimal equipment uptime and reliability.
- Manage project and construction activities effectively.
- Operationalize maintenance strategies into effective work packages and tactics.
- Ensure adherence to legal appointments/statutory requirements.
- Implement and manage critical Plant and Equipment strategies.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent.
- Government Certificate of Competency (Mines).
Required Skills / Competencies:
- Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Proven ability in asset management and turnaround of under-performing plants.
- Expertise in capital project management.
- Strong risk management and hazard mitigation skills.
- Planning, analysis, and task prioritization capabilities.
- Relationship-building and excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis and implementation of remedial actions.
- Project management experience.
- Report writing and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
